Facebook and Facebook will collaborate on “smart” home technologies, according to a blog post by the two companies.
Facebook said it would partner with Microsoft to build its smart home technology and build out its existing cloud platform, Azure.
“The partnership is part of our continued commitment to bringing the world’s best smart home solutions to consumers, businesses and the broader ecosystem,” Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg wrote.
Facebook also announced a partnership with the University of Texas at Austin’s Austin Lab to develop a “home automation platform” that will help users “use and share information and data with one another, wherever they are, in any location.”
The UT Austin researchers are expected to publish their work later this year.
